Mocking God…

This verse does not depict God in Heaven sitting on the edge of a cloud waiting on us to screw up so He would be justified in tazing us with a bolt of lightning or striking us with some terminal disease (as if He needed anymore reasons anyway). It’s not as if God sees us sinning and mocking Him and says to Himself “That’s it, you hurt my feelings, now how’s a broken leg sound to you… BAM!”
It’s not that God won’t be mocked, God CANNOT be mocked. The laws and principals He established for the world to operate on won’t allow it. The Bible describes one here. The principal of sowing and reaping. What ever you plant you harvest. “For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.” (Gal 6:8 ESV) We will reap what we sow. Just as if you plant a watermelon seed in the ground you harvest a watermelon, not corn.
God is not a giant, cosmic kill-joy that hates for us to have fun. He is trying to tell us in His Word how He has set it up to operate. He created this thing, so He knows how it works and what’s best for us. If we go against Him and His Word, we are going against how He set the things up…
